Wines on tasting in December include Christmas time charmers like Rob Dolan’s Blanc de Blanc, feast-worthy Chardonnay from Journey Wines and Tarrahill, a special Italian blend from Il Capo (Santolin Wines experimental label), a Gewürztraminer from historic vineyard, Lillydale Estate and many more boutique wines to make the holiday season one big celebration.

Blanc de Blancs 2017, Rob Dolan Wines — $27
Crisp, green apple notes on the nose and palate. Fresh zingy hint of lemon rind, brioche and white peach. 9 months on lees. WINERY FACT: 5 Star Winery Rating from James Halliday (Wine Companion, 2015)
Chardonnay 2017, Journey Wines — $38
The elegant yet intense nose has aromas of green apple, lemon tart and grapefruit. The palate is tight and long with white peach on the front-palate balanced by a distinct line of grapefruit acidity. WINERY FACT: winemaker Damian North is a former sommelier whose winemaking career has taken him to Tarrawarra (Yarra Valley), Benton-Lane Winery (Oregon) and Leeuwin Estate (Margaret River).
Chardonnay 2016, Tarrahill Wines — $30
Beautiful aromas of butterscotch, almond croissant and lemon tart. Palate of white stone fruit, crème brulee, lemon curd and bread and butter pudding. 30% new oak and 100% malolactic fermentation. WINERY FACT: 5 Star Winery Rating from James Halliday (Wine Companion, 2017). Vineyard is organic and biodynamic in transition. They use no insecticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers
Fumé Blanc 2015, Squitchy Lane — $30
Passionfruit, citrus, melon, peach and lime aromas. White nectarine, blood orange and apricot on the palate. WINERY FACT: Owner, former captain of Carlton Football Club, Mike Fitzpatrick fell in love with wine while a student at Oxford University.
Gewürztraminer 2018, Lilydale Estate — $35
Aromas of peach, lychee, pears and apple cinnamon spice. A fresh, deep palate of pears, honeydew melon and clove stewed apples. WINERY FACT: The vineyards were established in 1976, making them amongst the oldest in the Yarra Valley.
Marsanne 2014, Handpicked Wines — $38
A full-flavoured Rhone-style wine with complex aromas of dried pear, honey and wild flower with a hint of potpourri. The palate is full bodied and textural with spicy, caramelized pear flavours. WINERY FACT: Handpicked’s Highbow Hill Vineyard won Yarra Valley Vineyard of the Year 2017 (Yarra Valley Wine Show).
Rosé 2017, Squitchy Lane — $25
Raspberry notes from Cabernet Franc (52%) and blueberry from Merlot (48%). Peach, rockmelon, honeydew and pineapple aromas; ruby grapefruit and blackberry n’ blueberry compote on palate. WINERY FACT: GOLD at the Yarra Valley Wine Show.
Pinot Noir 2017, Handpicked Wines — $28
Soft and fruity medium bodied red. Bright fruit characteristics of ripe raspberries, cranberries and black cherry, with soft, yet grippy tannins. Pairs well with Peking Duck, Game, Roast Beetroot. WINERY FACT: Handpicked make wines from 21 regions across Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand and Chile.
Pinot Noir 2017, Journey Wines — $38
Aromas of red berries, plums and cherries, complemented by forest-floor and subtle oak. Silky tannins lead to a delightfully long finish. 20% whole bunch fermentation. Handpicked fruit from Lone Star Creek – Woori Yallock, Upper Yarra Valley (79%) and Willowlake – Gladysdale, Upper Yarra Valley (21%).
Nero D’Avola/Sangiovese 2018, Ii Capo, Santolin Wines — $30
Aromas of raspberries, plums and violets; earthy palate of black cherries and plumcake. 50% Nero d’Avola/50% Sangiovese. 16 months in oak, some 1yr old barrels. Only 300 dozen produced.

Le Savant 2016, Tarrahill Wines — $80
Densely packed black fruit flavours and ripe tannins, layers of dark fruit, chocolate and spices. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon/2% Shiraz. Matured in French Oak (25% new) for 12 months. 96pts James Halliday.
Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot 2015, Squitchy Lane — $30
Cabernet Sauvignon 62.5%, Cabernet Franc 25 %, Merlot 12.5%. Spicy, red fruits and a waft of mint; medium bodied. Hand-picked, destemmed and crushed to small open fermenters. Fermentation in 7-10 days and individual parcels pressed and matured in barrels for 15 months prior to blending and bottling.
